Needham Police Log: Unregistered Sex Offender Pulled Over, Check your Checks, and More!

  • After a traffic stop at the intersection of South Street and Webster, police learned that the driver, 44-year-old Robert O'Reilly of Leominster had a straight warrant from West Roxbury Court for failing to register as a sex offender. He had initially been pulled over because of a revoked registration and driving an uninsured vehicle. He was ultimately arrested and charged on that warrant, and additionally charged for driving after a revocation and driving uninsured.

Monday, Sept 23
  • A crash on the Exit 18 ramp on Route 95 before 10 a.m. was determined by police to be minor, damage estimated at less than $1000,. Police oversaw the exchange of information, and no injuries were reported.
  • An employee at a Highland Avenue business, according to the business owner, reportedly took company checks and cashed them for a value of $5300. The incident reportedly took place in July of 2010. He has since attempted to collect repayment, but has been unsuccessful. Police summonsed a North Dakota man aged 24 to court for 8 counts of forgery and uttering false checks.
Tuesday, Sept. 24
  • At about 8:45 a.m., police responded to a three-car crash at the intersection of Kendrick and Fourth Avenue. In speaking with witnesses, they determined that one vehicle turned left out of Kendrick Street in front of another car driving along Fourth Avenue, straight. The turning car hit the traveling one, which then hit a vehicle at the stop sign on Fourth Avenue. One person was taken to Beth Israel Hospital in Needham.
  • Pilgrim Road, officers were dispatched for a report of two dogs fighting. At about 12:30 p.m., police arrived on the scene. One dog was taken to a vet for a bite on the chest area. Police left follow-up information for animal control.
  • A report of a sick animal came in from a Taylor Street address at about 2 p.m. The animal was put down and removed.
  • After a traffic stop at the intersection of South Street and Webster, police learned that the driver, 44-year-old Robert O'Reilly of Leominster had a straight warrant from West Roxbury Court for failing to register as a sex offender.   • A Chapel Street business reported receiving harassing phone calls at around 4 p.m. The employee who took the calls gave police the information from the caller ID system. Police spoke with the person who made the phone calls, who said they would not do it again and they were sorry. Officers followed up with the business. They were told they could issue a no-trespass order, or have pursue a harassment prevention order from the Dedham District Court. The employee said she was satisfied with the outcome, and the business owner may be in touch with police about a no-trespass order.
  • At around 4:30 p.m., police were looking into a possible fraud incident at a Webster Street home. The homeowner was apparently called and told that he won $2.5 million, and would have to purchase a Green Dot Moneypak card for $499 and send its information to cover the winnings. He did not make the purchase or send it over, and was instructed to hang up on these calls in future.
Wednesday, Sept 25
  • Two laptops were apparently stolen from a Gould Street address. The reporting callers said the computers were taken from inside their offices. Police are reviewing the security tapes and investigating the matter.
  • A car crashed into a fire hydrant near 41 Hillcrest Road. When officers arrived, they saw a blue Toyota off-road, with moderate front-end damage, next to the hydrant on its side. The driver was cited for impeded operation of a vehicle.
  • Reservoir Street, a car repair shop reported that a vehicle there for service had been stolen from their lot some time before 2:45 p.m. The vehicle has been entered as stolen in the national registry. 
  • At about 5:15 p.m., police were sent to a Wexford Street address for a past hit-and-run. The offending vehicle driver left a note, and police oversaw the exchange of information between the two parties.
  • Some time between 5 and 8:45 p.m., a woman parked on Webster Street reported that laptop had been taken out of her vehicle while parked at her house.
