Needham Police Log: Mystery Calls and a Hotwire Gone Cold

The following reports were provided by the Needham Police Department from Nov. 12 - 16. Charges where mentioned do not indicate a conviction. 

Mystery Callers

Moseley Avenue residents reported suspicious calls from a "private" number on their cell phones at about 1 a.m. November 12. No threats were made.

35 Winslow Road, a caller reports receiving harassing/suspicious calls overnight, at around 9:15 a.m. on Nov. 13.

A business owner reports hang-up calls all evening on the voicemail account of his Great Plain Ave business, around 9:30 a.m. Police are investigating the cause of these calls.

Construction Site Fall

8:45 a.m. on Nov. 12, Needham Police and emergency responders arrive at a Gould Street construction site following reports that a construction worker had fallen from a roughly 35 to 40 foot high scaffold. The worker was taken to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. 

Rock Meets Window

Nov. 12, a Lexington Avenue resident reports to police that someone threw a rock through their house window.

Non-Muffled Muffler

A police officer stopped a vehicle with an altered muffler on Chapel Street, about 1:15 p.m. on Nov. 13. The 20-year-old Halifax driver was cited a criminal citation for the altered muffler and a suspended license. 

Get Your Car Inspected

A 25-year-old Allston man was cited for driving on a suspended license and an inspection violation before 8:45 a.m. on Nov. 14, when police stopped him for an inspection violation on Wexford Street. 

I Didn't Buy That

Several times between Oct. 23 and 24, according to one man who walked into the Needham Police Station on Nov. 14, before 2 p.m., his Discover card was used fraudulently after being taken from him. The matter is under investigation.

Not A Boston Bump

On Nov. 14, a caller reported a past hit-and-run on Savoy Road. The victim reports that another driver backed into his car some time between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Police say there were no witnesses, and they are investigating the matter.

Family Fraud

A woman on Great Plain Avenue reported an incident of fraud she believes committed against her by her former husband. Police note that the two have a court date in January, but she wanted to document the incident with police, Nov. 14.

Hotwiring Goes Cold

A caller on Grosvenor Road reported an attempted larceny of a vehicle on Nov. 16. The caller claims that the sterring column was left open, but that no damage was apparent on the ignition key for the car. However, when police arrived, the column was in its original place. Police found there was no permanent damage on the vehicle, and nothing appeared to have been taken from it.

Jewel Heist

7 West Street, residents report a breaking-and-entering some time between 10:15 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. on Nov. 16. The front door was forced, and several pieces of jewelry were taken from the home. Police are investigating the incident.

Open Door

Detectives were called in for a past case of breaking-and-entering reported at 32 High Street, at about 8 p.m. on Nov. 16. The caller said that when they returned home, the door appeared to have been forced open.

Facebook Threats

A resident came into the police department to report threatening messages sent via Facebook. The reporting person told police they had had an argument with a friend of the suspect earlier in the week, before the two started using Facebook to communicate.
