Needham Police Log: Independence Day Weekend

The following reports were provided by the Needham Police Department. Charges where mentioned do not indicate a conviction.


Monday, July 1
  • An undetermined amount of copper and tools were taken from a Highland Avenue construction site over the weekend. Police took a report on Monday at about 1:15 p.m., and say the matter is being investigated. 
Tuesday, July 2
  • A Linden Street man's canoe was taken from the back of his property. Police are on the case, as of about 11:45 a.m.
  • After attempting to cash a false check for over $850 at a bank on Chestnut Street, at around noon, police arrested and charged 26-year-old Latoyra Turner, of Boston with uttering a false check. 
  • While driving toward Needham Square along Dedham Avenue, a police officer reported seeing a red Toyota pickup. A random query determined the license plate belonged to a grey Ford truck. After pulling the vehicle over and speaking with the driver, the 34-year-old Boston man at the wheel was cited and summonsed for having an unregistered and uninsured vehicle, and attaching plates. 
  • Another canoe was reported stolen from the yard of a West Street home at about 2:30 p.m.
Wednesday, July 3
  • A construction worker who was working on Central Ave reported his utility trailer had been taken from the Central Ave site. The West Street resident told police that the trailer had been taken some time over the weekend. 
  • A Pinewood Road resident told police about a breaking-and-entering that evening. At around 10:15 p.m., the reporting parties told police that personal items and jewelry were taken from the home. Police are investigating.
  • Police brought a man into protective custody after he was seen walking down Garden Street, reportedly intoxicated. He was taken back to his residence.
