Needham Police Log: Don't Drink and Drive, Truckload of Fire and More!

Monday, Sept. 30
  • At about 8:15 a.m., an officer was dispatched to a one-car crash on Greendale Avenue near Highgate Street, 8;15 a.m. The driver reportedly ran off the road and into the woods nearby. The Fire Department took the driver away from the scene, who was cited for failing to stay within marked lanes. 
  • Hit-and-run crash reported on 128 northbound, the reporting caller said she exiting at exit 19B when she was hit from behind by another car. She was not able to get a description of the vehicle, but reported it had a green license plate. When she pulled over to speak with the other driver and exchange insurance info, it drove away. 
  • Vehicle fire reported at the Gould Street intersection with Highland Avenue, in the bed of a pickup truck driving there at about 7:30 p.m. The driver had put it out by the time the fire department arrived. Needham firefighters inspected the vehicle and deemed it safe. There was no damage to the truck, which was sent on its way.
Tuesday, Oct. 1
  • Shortly after midnight, police were sent to a Highland Avenue home for a report of an intoxicated man trying to drive home. When they arrived, they found a 24-year-old man standing outside of a vehicle and looking heavily drunk. He was taken into protective custody and released into the care of his mom. 
  • Highland Avenue, 7 a.m., an officer was approached by a driver who said his vehicle was involved in a hit-and-run crash with a blue Jeep Wrangler. Police searched the area, but did not find the other vehicle. 
  • Some time between Sept 27 and 29, a Rosemary Street resident came into the police station to report her son's bike was taken from the Pollard Middle School, despite being locked. 
  • Linden Street, a resident reported fraudulent credit card charges made in his name. At about 2:30 p.m., he was advised to contact a credit reporting agency about the incident. 
  • 3:30 p.m., police pull over a driver for an expired inspection sticker. After the stop, police learned that the 21-year-old woman from Northborough who was driving will be summonsed to Dedham District Court for driving with a suspended license.
  • A vehicle in a parking lot on Highland Avenue near Charles Street was involved in a hit-and-run crash. Police are investigating the crash. 
  • 10:15 a.m., police pull over a vehicle for a U-turn violation on Chestnut Street at Oak Street. The 23-year-old driver, a man from Roslindale, was cited and summonsed to court for driving with a suspended license.
