Needham Police Log: Hard-Boiled Egging, Hot Dog, and Three Arrested on Drug Charges

Tuesday, July 9

  • At about 1:15 a.m., police were dispatched to a bridge at South Street near the Dover line, where there was some reported graffiti. Police took photos as evidence.
  • During a routine mountain bike patrol in the Camp Malcolm area, police reported the area had been vandalized sometime before 12:30 p.m. 
  • A Linden Street resident reported that some personal items had been taken from a storage closet inside her apartment building before 1:30 p.m. Police reached out to Needham Housing, and are investigating the scene. 
  • A Needham Town Worker was trimming the grass near the Public Works building when the vehicle was struck with a rock. Police investigated the scene at about 2:30 p.m.
  • Police were dispatched to a Hillside Avenue minor car crash, which was determined to be a hit-and-run. The driver of the victim vehicle saw the other driver's car parked in a nearby parking space. The other driver was identified, but declined hitting the other car. Police filed a report at about 5:15 p.m.
  • At about 6:30 p.m., a Stockdale Road resident reported that someone threw an egg through his first floor window. 
  • A police officer was performing a security check at about 4:15 p.m. at the Pollard Middle School, and reported seeing graffiti on the wall near the rear entrance. A check of the building's exterior showed there was more graffiti near the classroom pods. 
  • A Grant Street resident's bike was taken from his home withinin the past two weeks. He reported this incident at about 10:30 p.m.

Wednesday, July 10

  • Black and blue stencilled faces were reported on several businesses, street signs, homes and the commuter rail station in the Needham Square Area. Police are investigating the graffiti incident. 
  • Five people from a Bennington Street resident contacted police to file a report of larceny at about 10:30 p.m. They reported jewelry items were missing from their home, and that there were no signs of forced entry. They believe it could have happened sometime in the last several weeks. Police are investigating.

Thursday, July 11

  • At about 9:45 a.m., Police received a report of vandalism from a Hawthorn Avenue home which had a front window smashed by a rock sometime overnight. 
  • A dog was reportedly left in a parking lot at a Highland Avenue business for over an hour and a half before 1 p.m. The dog appeared to be suffering from heat exhaustion, and was removed from the car and taken to the Highland Animal Hospital for evaluation. Police were unable to find the dog's owner. 
  • Norfolk County Anti-Crime Task Force and the Needham Police Department executed a search of 102 Reservoir Road. During the investigation, police arrested a 15-year-old male from Needham, as well as arresting 25-year-old Matthew Burgess and 19-year-old Joseph German, both of Newton, all are charged with conspiracy to violate a controlled substance act. Burgess was also charged with distributing a class D substance, failing to stop for police, marked lanes violation, speeding, and reckless driving. There is also a 12-year-old Needham male who will be summonsed to court for two counts of distribution of a class D substance and a count of conspiracy to violate a controlled substance act.
  • While serving the search warrant noted above, police learned that a Jennifer Blair, 39, of Reservoir Street had an outstanding warrant for her arrest. She was arrested and charged on that warrant.
  • At about 5 p.m., a First Avenue business manager reported that he had confronted a man who was in a parked car in the parking lot. He asked the man to park elsewhere. The man told him that he had a gun, although the manager says he did not see a weapon. Police checked the area and did not find anything.
  • 5:15 p.m., a Brookline resident reported to police that his vehicle had been broken into sometime before 5:15 p.m. The man said he came outside and found all the windows on his vehicle were open. He said nothing was missing from his vehicle, and there were not signs of forced entry to the car.
