Mysterious Handbags, Taxi Napper in Needham Police Log: Jan. 4 - 5

Saturday, Jan. 4

1:59 a.m.: Caller reported that he observed a suspicious person bending down behind his motor vehicle that was parked in his driveway on Henderson Street. The suspicious person fled the area toward a parked SUV that was waiting a few houses away. The SUV then drove away towards Oakcrest Road. No entry was gained, and no damage was reported to the motor vehicle.

4 p.m.: Police were dispatched to a parking lot on Great Plain Avenue for a past hit and run crash. Upon arrival, the reporting party said his vehicle had been struck in the lot and the other vehicle left the scene. There were minor scratches on the bumper. He provided police with the license plate of the other vehicle. Police contacted the owner, who stated that he did bump into the car. He stated he got out and checked for damage, but didn’t see any, so he left. Police facilitated an insurance information exchange between the parties.

Sunday, Jan. 5

3:02 a.m.: Police were flagged down by a Boston taxi driver, who stated that his passenger was drunk and asleep in his motor vehicle. A 22-year-old female Needham resident was placed into protective custody. A relative took custody of her.

7:56 a.m.: Police were dispatched to a West Street business for a reported assault that took place in the kitchen. After investigating the incident, a 62-year-old Newton woman will be charged with assault and battery.

12:51 p.m.: Police responded to Defazio Field for a report of several hand bags in the parking lot. The handbags were new and no identification was recovered. The bags were taken and logged into property.
