Hit and Run in Needham Police Log: Nov. 14 - 15

The following information was provided by Needham Police Department. Where arrests are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Thursday, Nov. 14

8:50 a.m.: Police responded to a report of a hit and run at Central Avenue and Cedar Street. The operator said she was struck in the rear bumper and the other vehicle left the scene.

10:48 a.m.: A Linden Street resident reported that someone keyed her car sometime overnight.

2:16 p.m.: Police stopped a vehicle for failing to display both issued registration plates. As a result of the stop, a 58-year-old male from Wellesley will be summonsed to court for operation of a motor vehicle after registration revocation, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle and failing to display two license plates.

9:13 p.m.: An officer was working a traffic detail for the Town of Needham Sewer Department. He observed a vehicle approach him on Chestnut Street. The vehicle turned left and drove up the handicap ramp and onto the sidewalk in front of 290 Chestnut St. He identified the operator of the vehicle as Edmund S. Farrell Jr., 62, of Needham. Farrell handed the officer an expired driver’s license. He was given field sobriety tests, which he did not pass. He was arrested for operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and operation of a motor vehicle without a proper license.

Friday, Nov. 15

3:27 p.m.: Police pulled over a vehicle for a cracked windshield. After a short investigation, it was discovered that the operator had a straight warrant out of Quincy Court for uninsured operation of a motor vehicle, unregistered operation of a motor vehicle and failure to have her license in her possession. Police arrested Antonia Lobo, 28, of Stoughton, booked her at headquarters and she was bailed.

3:55 p.m.: Police were dispatched to the woods near the Recycling and Transfer Station for a report of illegal hunting. A 24-year-old Attleboro man was issued a town of Needham bylaw violation for hunting. The Massachusetts Environmental Police were also notified.

5:18 p.m.: Police were dispatched to a Great Plain Avenue residence for a report of possible Medicare fraud. The elderly female resident/victim reported someone called her home and wanted to issue her a new Medicare card. She gave the person her bank account number when asked and wanted to know which account the victim’s social security checks went into. The victim asked the calling party if this was a scam and the suspect stated they would call the victim back to confirm it wasn’t a scam. However, no call ever came. The victim and her daughter put a hold on the account in question.
