Gun Threat Scam in Needham Police Log: Jan. 8 - 10

The following information was supplied by Wellesley Police Department. Where arrests are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Wednesday, Jan. 8

3:21 p.m.: Police responded to the area of Captain Robert Cook Drive for the larceny of two registration plates. The owner noticed that the plates were missing this morning. This incident is still under investigation.

9:11 p.m.: Police responded to the parking lot at 199 Chestnut St. for a hit and run. The reporting party stated that he came out to his vehicle after work and his vehicle had a dent in the front driver’s side bumper. The reporting party will contact his insurance company.

Thursday, Jan. 9

5:40 p.m.: Police stopped a vehicle on Highland Avenue by Hunting Road for a u-turn violation. As a result of the stop, police arrested the operator, Christos Portselis, 58, of Robert Street, Boston, for a straight warrant for larceny over $250 out of Orleans District Court.

Friday, Jan. 10

8:33 a.m.: Police responded to a Walnut Street residence to speak with the resident regarding suspicious phone calls. The resident received a phone call from a male party stating that he had her brother at gunpoint and that she should meet him at the Gulf Station. The party did not give the location of the Gulf Station he was referring to. The resident was able to contact her brother to confirm that her brother was safe and she was advised that this is a common scam.
