Fraud, Crazy Person in Needham Police Log: Oct. 8 - 12

The following information was provided by Needham Police Department. Where arrests are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Tuesday, Oct. 8

12:08 a.m.: Police responded to a parking lot of a Highland Avenue business for a report of suspicious activity. As a result of investigation by officers a 26 year old Halifax male will be summoned to Dedham District Court for possession of a Class A substance.

3:24 p.m.: Police stopped a vehicle on Dedham Avenue. After a short investigation the operator, Kenneth Lamson, 36, of Stoughton, was arrested for operation of a motor vehicle with a suspended license for failing to register as a sex offender.

Wednesday, Oct. 9

11:33 a.m.: A Great Plain Avenue resident reports she was the victim of fraud.

4:44 p.m.: Police responded to a Brookline Street address for a report of suspicious phone calls. After speaking with the resident and making follow up calls and online inquiries, the officer reported that it appeared the resident was being targeted as a potential victim in a solicitation or phone extortion scam. A follow up call was made to the number provided to the victim, but the call went to voicemail and was not returned.


Thursday, Oct. 10

12:56 p.m.: Police responded to a vacant residence on Meetinghouse Circle for a report of two suspicious parties walking around on the premises. The two males were identified and found to be doing legitimate work for a foreclosure company. After initially lying about his name, one of the two men admitted he had a warrant and revealed his true identity. Cedric Fortune, 40, of Quincy was arrested on a warrant out of Quincy District Court for larceny over $250.

4:26 p.m.: A Central Avenue resident reported her credit card had been used fraudulently by an unknown party. She has cancelled her credit card and the credit card company said she will not be responsible for the charges.

9:42 p.m.: Police responded to a Woodledge Road residence for a past larceny. Taken from the front of the residence was a planter with a value of approximately $100. There are no suspects at this time.


Friday, Oct. 11

1:10 p.m.: A party reported their iPad Mini tablet was stolen from an office building on Kendrick Street. There are no suspects at this time. A report has been filed.


Saturday, Oct. 12

2:35 p.m.: A resident on Murphy Road reported an old friend acting crazy in the neighborhood. She did not want him there. Officers checked the neighborhood, but he was gone.

5:35 p.m.: Police responded to 60 Kendrick Street for a report of a car running off the road. A 23-year-old Newton man lost control of his vehicle and drove over an embankment. The operator had minor injuries and was evaluated by the fire department but refused treatment. The vehicle was towed and the operator’s parents picked him up. He was summonsed to Dedham District Court for negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
