Breaking and Entering of a Vehicle in Needham Police Log: Oct. 28 - 31

The following information was provided by Needham Police Department. Where arrests are mentioned does not indicate conviction.

Monday, Oct. 28

10:18 p.m.: Police responded to the corner of Plymouth Road and Great Plain Avenue for a person breaking into vehicles in the area. After an investigation, the operator, Kelly Owens, a 24-year-old Norwood resident, was placed under arrest and charged with operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor, breaking and entering at nighttime for a felony, receiving stolen property and operation of a motor vehicle with an open container of alcohol.

12:27 p.m.: Police responded to a Chestnut Street residence for a past larceny. The matter is still under investigation.

7:41 p.m.: Police responded to a Wilshire Park residence for a report of a past breaking and entering into two mvs at the residence. The residents reported that the breaking and entering occured the previous night. The vehicles were not damaged and nothing was reported stolen.

Wednesday, Oct. 30

8:21 a.m.: Police responded to an apartment complex on 2nd Avenue for a report of past vandalism. The reporting party stated that her car had been vandalized in the parking garage overnight.

12:41 p.m.: Police observed a motor vehicle operating on Highland Avenue with two defective brake lights. The officer initiated a traffic stop in front of Sudbury Farms. After a brief roadside investigation, the operator was determined to have both an expired Massachusetts license and Mexican license. The 52-year-old man will be summonsed to Dedham District Court for unlicensed operation and operation of a motor vehicle with defective equipment.

3:58 p.m.: An Oakland Avenue resident reported being the victim of a scam. She received a call from someone claiming to be her granddaughter. The granddaughter said she had been arrested and needed money for bail. The victim sent $1,400 via a wire transfer to Lima, Peru. Later she learned that her granddaughter hadn’t been arrested at all.

4:21 p.m.: Police responded to a 2nd Avenue business for a report of a threatening voicemail left earlier in the day by a Newton resident. The resident was upset about an article written in the Newton newspaper. The officer spoke with the resident and advised her not to contact the business or employees again and advised her of her rights to file in civil court.

8 p.m.: Police responded to the area of South Street/Webster Street for a report of an injured deer. Upon the officer’s arrival, he observed a deer lying in the middle of South Street. It appeared that the deer had two broken legs and was severely injured. He used the department shotgun and dispatched the deer. The animal was properly disposed of.


Thursday, Oct. 31

12:42 a.m.: Police arrested Michael Murphy, 40, of Broadmeadow Road, Needham, and charged with domestic assault and battery.

10 a.m.: Police responded to Broadmeadow School for a report of vandalism. A window was broken. The damage may have been done from a rock.

10:20 a.m.: Police observed a motor vehicle operating on Central Avenue with a failed inspection sticker. The officer initiated a traffic stop on Webster Street and after a brief investigation discovered that the vehicle’s registration was revoked due to canceled insurance. The 34-year-old Needham woman was cited and will be summonsed to court for operation of a motor vehicle with a failed inspection, operation of a motor vehicle after a revoked registration and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle.

5:21 p.m.: Police responded to a Central Street residence for a report of an unwanted party. When the officer arrived the female suspect was standing in the driveway. He approached her and while talking to her he determined that she was intoxicated and in possession of illegal prescription drugs. She was put into protective custody. The party is a 51-year-old Plymouth female who will be summonsed to court for illegal possession of the drugs.
