'Beanie Bandit' Strikes Another Local Bank

By Joseph Markman

A prolific local bank robber known as the "Brim Beanie Bandit" struck again Monday morning, demanding money from a bank teller in Stoughton. This comes a few weeks after he robbed a Needham bank.

The man, described as a 150-pound white male in his late 40s or early 50s, exited South Shore Savings Bank on Turnpike Street in Stoughton shortly after 9:30 a.m. and fled on foot in an unknown direction, the FBI said in a statement.

A weapon was not seen during the robbery, but the suspect is considered armed and dangerous. He was last seen wearing a black brim beanie cap, black jacket and dark pants with black gloves.

The FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force is seeking help from the public in identifying the serial bank robber, who has struck several area banks, including Braintree Cooperative Bank and banks in Dorchester, Quincy, Stoughton and Needham over the last few weeks.

Braintree police said the man stole an unspecified amount of money from Braintree Cooperative Bank on Monday, Dec. 23. He passed a note demanding money and claimed he had a weapon, but did not show one.

No one was hurt during the robbery.

The FBI is offering a reward for information leading directly to the arrest and charging of the robber.

Anyone with information regarding the robbery should call the FBI’s Boston Division at 617-742-5533 or Stoughton Police Department at 781-344-2424.
