Week in Review: Fireworks, Parade and Music in the Park

A look at the top stories on Patch over the past week.

While last week was all about getting ready for the Fourth of July festivities, this week Needham Patch was full of coverage of the weekend events, with several photo galleries, videos and more.

On Monday, we shared photos from the kick-off event—the —held Friday, July 1 at Memorial Field. Not only did the event provide excellent music and entertainment for those who ventured out, even staying through a little drizzle, but it also rewarded viewers with a gorgeous full rainbow in the middle of the second performance.

On Tuesday, we posted a gallery of images from the Needham Exchange Club’s well-attended show Sunday night. We also shared photos from the held Monday. Our Question of the Day on Tuesday asked readers: “What was your favorite Fourth of July activity?” in the comments section at the bottom of the story.

We recognized a few of the dedicated runners in the Charles River YMCA on Wednesday, sharing the names and times of the top 10 finishers as well as photos from the event.

Also on Wednesday, we had a story and photos about the held Monday as part of the Fourth of July festivities.

Our Wednesday Question of the Day was: “What type of facility does Needham need?” to the comments.

For those wondering how the Needham 300's amazing  came to be, we interviewed the volunteers behind the massive red-and-yellow creation in a special video and photo gallery posted on Thursday. We also recognized other floats that received special honors in the Fourth of July parade.

Also on Thursday, Patch chatted with musician , whose Big Band—previously under the direction of his father and called the Roy Nutile Orchestra—has been opening the Arts in the Park concert series for 35 years. The Tom Nutile Big Band played that night at Memorial Park.

Our Thursday  was: “What can’t you go a day without?”

On Friday, we shared a story and photos from the opening of the , part of the Fourth of July celebration in coordination with the Needham 300 festivities. Our follow-up asked: “What would you put in a time capsule?”

In police reports this week: A man was arrested for —while he was still in the house; a woman ran from police after allegedly trying to ; a teenager was taken to the ER after ; a woman allegedly tried to use a to pay back $500 she borrowed; a woman taken into protective custody after drinking  inside the police station; and a Jeep driver in a local parking lot.
