This Week in Social Media: Sept. 4-10

Highlights from Needham Patch's Facebook and Twitter interactions.

Social media is pretty important to us at Needham Patch. Not only does it provide excellent ways of sharing news with Needham residents but it’s also just a great way to expand that sense of community that is so important in a town like Needham.

Because it is so important, we have Social Media Saturday, a feature published every weekend that highlights the past week’s worth of Tweets, posts, likes, friends and comments. It’s our way of thanking those of you who communicate with us and encouraging more of our readers to do the same—think of it like waving hello on the street. Wave to us! And every weekend, we’ll wave back.

This is also a great way to highlight new Needham-related Facebook and other media pages we come across. So if you’re out there and want us to know about you, send us a link!

Highlights of the Week

• Thanks to Kristin Davis Cutler and Rick Bern for liking us on Facebook. Having found us yet? Check us out and give us a click. If you’re a local business or organization, we’ll be happy to return the favor and spread the Facebook love.

• Like something you see on Patch? Along with leaving us a comment underneath the post, tell us what you think via our Facebook page by liking or commenting on our links. This week, Facebook friends Sara Turan Musmon and Joy Olaes Surprenant liked our link to the which included the Town-Wide Block Party Day, a big band concert and the town’s 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony. And Roxanne Hope Randall liked our link to an announcement about the Needham Public Health Department this month.

• Facebook friend Parthena Salamasidis Zimplas liked our new photo album, “Back to School 2011.” Got some great shots of your kids heading back to school this week or plan to take some next week? Add them to our album or e-mail them to us at Becca.Manning@patch.com.

• At Patch, we use Twitter to help spread the word about the interesting and important things going on in Needham, so it’s great when our Twitter followers help us by re-Tweeting our posts to keep the information cycle going. This week, thanks to @cselland, @BankerMark, @harmonywho, @Nanb and others who re-Tweeted Patch content.
