Election Letter: Selectman Candidate Has Proven Ability on Other Town Boards

This letter was submitted by a Needham resident.

I am writing in support of Matt Borrelli’s candidacy for selectman.

I have had the pleasure of working with Matt on the town’s Finance Committee for several years. As a member of a multi-generational Needham family, Matt brought a clear understanding of the needs of the town to this position. He combined this with a strong work ethic and the ability to structure consensus solutions to problems. These skills were demonstrated in his role on the Senior Center Exploratory Committee as well, and were the basis for his election as chairman of the Finance Committee, the position he currently holds

As chairman, Matt has put in long hours meeting with town management and department heads. The many meetings with the School Department this year are an excellent example of this. Trying to balance the growing needs of the School Department with the withdrawal of federal stimulus funding presented particular challenges. Matt played a key role in addressing these challenges. This is just one example of how Matt has been able to lead the committee in structuring solutions that reconcile growing demands for services with fiscal realities. He would bring these same skills to the position of selectman.

I urge you to go to the polls and vote for Matt on Tuesday, April 10.
