Obituary: Phyllis R. Johnson, Needham High School Graduate

Phyllis R. (Rodgers) Johnson, 90, formerly of Needham, Sudbury and Daytona Beach, Fla., died Nov. 5, 2013 at Concord Healthcare Center.

She was wife for 48 years of the late Robert L. Johnson, who died in 1997.

Born in Needham on May 24, 1923, she was daughter of the late George W. and Constance (Fraser) Rodgers. She attended Needham public schools and was a 1940 graduate of Needham High School.

Early in her career, Mrs. Johnson worked at the investment firm, Eaton & Howard. Prior to retirement she worked as a writer at the Needham Times and as a secretary at the Needham Youth Commission.

A longtime resident of Needham, she enjoyed nature, writing poetry, gardening, baking and sewing.

Survivors include her son, Chuck Johnson of Devens; her daughter, Ingrid J. Hotchkiss and her husband John of Sudbury; her six grandchildren, Kate, Joshua, Molly, Jake, Graham and James; and her three great grandchildren, Cameron, Rachael and Mari.

A private Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Sudbury Valley Trustees, 18 Wolbach Rd., Sudbury MA 01776.
