Obituary: Judith A. (McCarthy) Dunigan, Graduate of Needham High School

Judith A. (McCarthy) Dunigan, 73, of Chelmsford,  formerly of Needham, died Jan. 11, 2014 after a long illness.

She was the wife of the late W. Brian Dunigan who died May 1, 1996. Born in Manchester, Conn., she was daughter of the late Richard and Mary (Dwyer) McCarthy.

Judy was raised in Needham and graduated from Needham High School in 1958. She graduated from Catherine Laboure School of Nursing in Boston and earned her certification as a registered nurse in 1961. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Lesley College in 1988. Judy worked as the Town of Chelmsford public health nurse for 23 years until her retirement in 2007. 

She enjoyed her vacation home on Cape Cod and was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.

Judy is survived by her children, Brian M. and his wife Julie Dunigan of Pepperell, Kathleen Dunigan of Cambridge, Elizabeth Dunigan and her husband Jay Gillespie of Boston, Gregory R. Dunigan and wife Meg of Burbank, Calif.; his sister, Mary Meeker of Sandwich; her two grandchildren, Brilie and Shealie Dunigan of Pepperell; her several nieces and nephews; and her several grandnieces and grandnephews.

Visiting Hours are Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Dolan Funeral Home, 106 Middlesex St., Chelmsford. Family and friends are gathering at the Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Friday. Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church Chelmsford. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery in Tewksbury.
