Obituary: Joseph P. Carey, Retired Comptroller for Town of Needham

Joseph P. Carey, of Needham, died Oct. 14, 2013.

He was the husband of Natalie (Bowering) Carey for 61 years.

Joseph was a retired comptroller for the Town of Needham. He was a late graduate of College of the Holy Cross - Class of 1949, Harvard Business School - Class of 1951. He was a member of the Needham VFW and Needham Knights of Columbus Council 1611. Joseph was a WWII combat veteran, US Army Infantry, North Africa and Italy 1943 to 1945 and fought at the Battle of Monte Cassino, Italy.

Mr. Carey leaves his children Joseph P. Carey Jr. and his wife Dorothea Hass of Brookline, David B. Carey of Easton, Natalie M. Carey and her husband John Battiloro of White Plains, N.Y. and Richard B. Carey of Manhattan, N.Y., his grandchildren Christine, Emily, Ted, Elizabeth, Erika, Nathaniel and Elizabeth; his great-grandchild Jayden; his brother John Carey of West Roxbury; and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Albert Carey. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 1305 Highland Ave. (Exit 19B off 128) NEEDHAM, Saturday, Oct. 19 at 9 a.m. Funeral Mass in St. Bartholomew Church, Needham, at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Friday, Oct. 18, 4 to 8 p.m. Interment in St. Mary Cemetery, Needham.
