Obituary: Ernest F. Doyle Jr., WWII Veteran

Ernest F. "Snuffy" Doyle Jr., 89, of Needham, passed away Nov. 16, 2013 at the Stanley R. Tippett House in Needham.

He was husband for 64 years of Elizabeth M. (Tennent) Doyle.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War. 

Born and raised in Newton Upper Falls, "Snuffy" was a graduate of Newton Technical High School Class of 1942. Mr. Doyle was also a graduate of Wentworth Institute of Technology. He worked for many years as an electronic technician for GTE in Needham, retiring in 1989.

He was a member and past commander of the Lt. Manson H. Carter VFW Post 2498 in Needham and was also a member of the Medfield Sportsman's Club.

"Snuffy" enjoyed bowling and playing cribbage.

In addition to his wife, he leaves his children Nancy Lee and her husband Stephen Irwin of Needham and Robin Ann Campion of Nashua, N.H.; his four grandchildren; and his four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in the Carter Memorial United Methodist Church, 800 Highland Ave Needham Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment is private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ernest's name may be made to the Friends of the Needham Board of Health, in memo: for Travelling Meals, c/o Friends of the Needham Board of Health, 1471 Highland Ave Needham MA 02492.
