Barbara L. Higgins, 87, of Lisbon, formerly of Needham, died Oct. 17, 2013 after a short illness.
She was daughter of the late William and Doris Lane and grew up in Needham.
She was a graduate of Needham High School, Class of 1945 and married Thomas W. Higgins Jan. 24, 1948. Barbara and Tom raised their family in Brockton and because of Tom’s railroad career they moved to Connecticut in 1974. She worked for almost 20 years as a book binder and always had a passion for dancing, bingo and knitting.
She leaves her children Fred W. Higgins and his wife Linda of Bridgewater, Shirley McGrady of Hyannis, Dorothy L. Almeida of Taunton, Thomas W. Higgins Jr. and his wife Sandy of Florida and Sandra L. Almeida and her husband Robert of Carver; her 13 grandchildren; and her 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her siblings William Lane, Shirley DiModica and Robert Lane.
A service will be held at Prophett-Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St. Bridgewater, Tuesday Oct. 22 at 2 p.m. with visitation period starting at noon.
