Obituary: Andrew Case Bailey, United States Navy Veteran

Andrew Case Bailey, 92, of Naples, Fla. and Dedham passed away Dec. 25, 2013. 

He was husband of Joan Price Bailey to whom he was married for 68 years. 

Mr. Bailey was born to the late Mabel and Ralph Bailey of Needham and Wellesley. He served in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II as a LT. JG on board the subchaser USS PV. 788 and was honorably discharged from the Naval Reserve in 1956.

He was a graduate of Governor's Academy in Byfield and graduated from Amherst College in 1943. He graduated from Cornell Law School in 1948 and was a member of the Cornell Law Quarterly.

He co-authored the "Massachusetts Income Taxes" volumes from 1952 to 2001. He was a trustee of The Parker Foundation, the A. W. Baldwin Charitable Foundation and president of the Mabel Louise Riley Foundation until his death. He was a past member of the board of directors of Reese Corporation, Butler Automatic and Stackpole Corporation.

He was a current member of Wilderness Country Club in Naples, Fla., The Naples Yacht Club, the U.S. Seniors Golf Association and past president of Dedham Country & Polo Club. He was a past member of Hole in the Wall in Naples, Fla., Mid Ocean Club in Bermuda and The Somerset Club of Boston.

His love and interest in the game of golf grew into an active participation in the USGA as a rule official. He was officer and legal counsel to the New England Golf Association and past president, officer, and legal counsel to the Massachusetts Golf Association.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brother Ralph Edwin Bailey Jr. of Wellesley; his daughter Elizabeth Bailey Graham and her husband Robert of Dedham; his sons John McKay Bailey and his wife Deirdre of Dover and Andrew Case Bailey Jr. of Medfield; his grandson Robert Michael Graham Jr. and his wife Colleen of Walpole; his granddaughters Marion Graham Stoddard and her husband Andrew of Mansfield and Elizabeth Case Graham of Norwood; and his five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Evelyn Price Bailey.

A memorial service will be held at The Dover Church, 17 Springdale Ave, Dover Friday, Jan. 3 at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment is private.
