NHS Wrestling recap week of 2/3-2/8

The Needham High wrestling team traveled to 15th ranked Natick High School and Wellesley High School where they dropped both matches 52-21 and 45-19 respectively.  They then hosted Brookline High School on Saturday afternoon where they dominated the Warriors 57-21. Junior Dan Goldstein went 3 for 3 on the week pinning his Natick and Brookline opponents and winning on points against Wellesley. Also having pins against Natick were juniors Travis Szetela and Alex Goff. Senior Captain Zach Goldman beat his tough Natick opponent on points.   Against Wellesley, the lopsided score of 45-19 really didn’t reflect the tenor of the evening.  Needham showed true grit with some hard fought battles, Captain Ben Glickman lost in overtime and Junior Alex Goff lost in a very close match 1-0. Pinning for Needham against Wellesley were first year wrestlers junior Derek Child and freshman Andy Kaplan.  Winning on points were Zach Goldman and Dan Goldstein. Needham dominated Brookline with a score of 57-21 with pins from Dan Goldstein, Freshman Ben Fetzer, Senior Captain Ben Glickman, Senior Matt Ganz, Sophomore Griff Hood and Senior Mike Manigault closed out the day at heavyweight pinning his Brookline opponent giving up over a 50 pound disadvantage.    Lucas Goldman's match was the most exciting as he came from behind to beat the buzzer and win on points.  Brookline forfeited three matches to help give the Rockets their dominating win. This week the Rockets will host their last home match of the season against the Framingham Flyers on Senior night.
