Greene's Field Playground to Open Nov. 3

A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held to commemorate the opening of Greene's Field Playground Sunday, Nov. 3.

After evaluating the safety of the previous playground at the location of the same name, the Park and Recreation Department decided to tear the structure down in April 2010. Over 20 years old, the wood was splintered and weak.

At a Nov. 13 Town Meeting, voters approved unanimously to appropriate $445,000 toward rehabilitating the field and installing playground equipment. In the article, proponents also referenced fundraising efforts to make up the difference between the $445,000 appropriation and the estimated $500,000 cost of the project. Shortly after Town Meeting ended, the Greene's Field Fundraising Committee (GFFC) announced that they had already raised $8,000.
