As many of you
know, we have been working hard over the last year on the Own Your Peace
project. This sculpture, created in conjunction with the students at Needham High School and housed right in front has
many functions:
-
Own Your Peace is an educational
program for the entire community, including elementary through high school, as
well as adult learning curriculum addressing emotional wellness.

Public Art builds community. Art can
be used in health promotion and education, reaching broad segments of the
population because of its visibility and size.

The sculpture will be a venue for ritual,
celebration, gathering in times of need or concern, educational programming and
community health activities.

Public art is a shared experience. It has the
capacity to teach, change attitudes, and inspire communities to come
together
Ted Clausen, a
renowned artist, has now interviewed over 1,000 people, including youth,
parents, seniors, first responders, clergy, veteran’s, business owners and
more. The text from these conversations will become the voices of Needham that speak to us on
the sculpture.
We have received
donations from individuals, organizations and businesses which have brought us
close to the goal, but we need one more “push” to get us over the finish line so
we can break ground in July 2014.
On Jan.
18th we will have a Comedy night called Needham
Laughs. See the attached flyer with the details and order your
tickets now for this fun Needham night! In addition all attendees will
have the chance to win a $200 Marriott Gift card just for attending!
