Newton Baroque Gives Free Advent Concert

Newton Baroque director Andrus Madsen celebrates the 17th century German tradition of giving free weekend Advent concerts with a performance of music by Dietrich Buxtehude, Matthias Weckmann, Nicolaus Bruhns, Johann Christoph Pez, and Heinrich Biber.   This tradition originated in the town of Lubeck and was so treasured that the young J.S. Bach traveled 200 miles to attend.

Performers are Susanna Ogata, and Julia McKenzie, violins; Douglas Kelly, Viola da Gamba; Andrus Madsen, harpsichord; Julia Steinbok, soprano, Tom Oesterling, tenor; and Matthew Stansfield, baritone.
