Should Voters Approve $1.5M Needham School Plan?

Needham voters on Tuesday will decide on $1.5 million in additional funding for the school district.

The money would restore previously cut programs and extend the school day for students in kindergarten through eighth grade.

The funding will appear as an override request on the ballot during the annual election Tuesday. Find polling locations here.

"The proposed override request enables us to move forward and closer to our peers," school officials said in a statement.

The money would allow for:

• Expansion of wellness and physical education programs for grades 1-5
• Introduction of kindergarten music
• New Spanish program for grades 1-5
• New Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) programs for grades 1-3
• Additional 75 hours or three weeks of elementary instruction and 30 more hours of middle school instruction  

Voters on Tuesday will also decide on a measure that would allow restaurants with fewer than 100 seats to serve alcohol.

Races for major offices like the Board of Selectmen and School Committee are uncontested.
