This Weekend in Needham: Pancake Breakfast, Local Theater and a Luminary Walk

It’s Thursday, and the weekend is right around the corner. Patch has your back with a few fun things to do. Check our picks for the activities to hit and some places to explore. Here's what's happening in and around your town.

1. St. Sebastian’s Presents “Anything Goes”

  • WHERE: St. Sebastian's School, 1191 Greendale Ave., Needham (Ward Hall)
  • WHEN: Friday and Saturday, Nov. 2-3 at 7 p.m.
  • WHY GO: Watch students from St. Sebastian’s School in Needham and Montrose School in Medfield bring the Cole Porter classic musical "Anything Goes” to the local stage.
  • COST: Suggested donation of $2 per person 

2. Longwood Opera Presents "The Barber of Seville"

  • WHERE: Christ Episcopal Church, 1132 Highland Ave., Needham
  • WHEN: Friday, Nov. 2 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 4 at 2:30 p.m.
  • WHY GO: Come watch Needham's own Longwood Opera present Rossini's "The Barber of Seville. “The comic opera will be costumed and performed in English. "The Barber of Seville" tells a story of two men, Count Almaviva and Dr. Bartolo, who compete for the affection of the Sevillian senorita, Rosina. Using a variety of schemes, the Count attempts to woo the young lady from her over-bearing guardian, whom she is condemned to marry. Comedy and confusion ensue, all set to Rossini's exhuberant and popular music score.
  • COST: $23 general admission, $18 seniors, $15 students and $13 kids 10 and under (available at the door)

3. 21st Annual Rotary Club Pancake Breakfast

  • WHERE: Needham High School, 609 Webster St., Needham
  • WHEN: Saturday, Nov. 3 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • WHY GO: Come share in an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast with your Needham neighbors. All proceeds will benefit local charities.
  • COST: $5 per person donation, seniors $3, children 4 and under are free

4. Beth Shalom Garden Club’s 15th Annual Antiques Show

  • WHERE: Needham High School, 609 Webster St., Needham
  • WHEN: Sunday, Nov. 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • WHY GO: Antiques dealers from six states will be selling quality antiques during Beth Shalom Garden Club’s only fundraiser of the year. Proceeds will help the club continue its programming and make annual contributions to Needham Vietnam Memorial, The Walker School, Needham High School, Needham Art-in-Bloom, the Charles River Center and Needham’s Habitat for Humanity. Drop in and shop, take a chance at a raffle of more than 50 items, enjoy lunch and snacks at the café and get some treats at the bake sale.
  • COST: $6 admission; $5 appraisal per item (with admission) 

5. Needham's First Luminary Stroll

  • WHERE: Needham Town Common at Highland and Great Plain avenues, and all over town
  • WHEN: Sunday, Nov. 4 from 4-6 p.m.
  • WHY GO: Residents all over Needham will place candle-lit luminaries along their sidewalks and walkways in a celebration of community. The Town Common will also be illuminated with fire and light performers. Nearby shops and restaurants will also be open from 4-6 p.m. Be part of the magic—purchase your luminaries on Needham’s luminary website www.luminarystroll.org and light your luminaries on the evening of Nov. 4. Proceeds support efforts to build a community center in Needham.
  • COST: $20 for a set of 10 luminaries
