This Weekend in Needham: Magic Show, Craft Fair and Clothing Sale

Patch offers a few ideas for what to do in the area Oct. 20-21.

It’s Thursday, and the weekend is right around the corner. Patch has your back with a few fun things to do. Check our picks for the activities to hit and some places to explore. Here's what's happening in and around your town.

  • Where: Christ Episcopal Church, 1132 Highland Ave., Needham
  • When: Saturday, Oct. 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Why go: Stock up on high-quality, bargain-priced children's and maternity items at Parent Talk’s annual fall sale. Proceeds benefit Parent Talk's community work and events; all unsold items are donated to local charities that depend on these goods to fulfill their missions, including Circle of Hope, Lynn Women's Health and Big Brother/Big Sister.
  • Cost: Varies; fill up a bag for $10 during clearance hours, from 12-1 p.m.

2. “The Lucky Bob Show”

  • Where: Needham Free Public Library, 1139 Highland Ave., Needham
  • When: Saturday, Oct. 20 at 10:30 a.m.
  • Why go: “The Lucky Bob Show” is a versatile one-man show with plenty of energy and audience appeal. Lucky Bob’s art form is known as prop comedy, a modern day 10 in 1 if you will. His skills include juggling, magic, comedy, mind reading, rola bola, balancing, mesmerizing and much more.
  • Cost: Free

3. Family Fun at Carter Pumpkin Patch

  • Where: Carter Memorial United Methodist Church, 800 Highland Ave., Needham
  • When: Saturday, Oct. 20 from 1-3 p.m.
  • Why go: Bring the family to pick up a pumpkin or two at Carter Memorial Church’s Pumpkin Patch (proceeds support church missions) and enjoy pumpkin decorating while you’re there.
  • Cost: Free activities; pumpkins start at $3

4. Friends of Walker Craft Fair

  • Where: Knights of Columbus, 1211 Highland Ave., Needham
  • When: Sunday, Oct. 21 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Why go: Shop from a variety of craft items including candles, jewelry, fabric creations, bakeware, purses, totes, wallets, gourmet snacks, hand-painted furniture, cards, clothing, scents, knits and more. Proceeds support the Walker School in Needham.
  • Cost: Free admission; items for sale

5. Needham Farmers Market

  • Where: , 23 Dedham Ave., Needham
  • When: Sunday, Oct. 14 from 1-5 p.m.
  • Why go: Check out the latest harvest from area farms and gardeners and catch up with your neighbors at the weekly Needham Farmers Market. This week’s featured artisans will be Nancy Bradham and Sheryl Scipione, and Finally Friday will perform. The market is held every Sunday through October. Learn more at www.needhamfarmersmarket.org.

6. Public Screening of “Big Little Town”

  • Where: First Parish in Needham, 23 Dedham Ave., Needham
  • When: Sunday, Oct. 21 from 7-9 p.m.
  • Why go: Enjoy a free screening of the locally produced documentary, “Big Little Town: The Story of Needham.” Created as the finale to Needham’s 300th anniversary celebration in 2011 and narrated by Natalie Jacobson, this film tells this little town’s really big stories. Following the film, co-producers Kathryn Dietz and Marc Mandel will answer questions about how they made the film. The program is part of First Parish's Needham Lyceum series and is free and open to the public.
