Start 2013 Right at New Year's Needham

Town event to ring in New Year's Eve

 

If puppets, jazz, arts and crafts and a glass of bubbly sound like a great way to ring in the new year, then you may be intrigued by New Year's Needham.

The party starts at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 31 all over town, according to a press release from the New Year's Needham committee. There is a schedule of events at a number of town locations. Check the calendar on the New Year's Needham website, and nearly anyone can find something to do.

To get into the festivities, you will need a button, which are available from a number of locations around town, including Town Hall, Taylor’s Stationery, and Volante Farms. The New Year Needham site has a full list.

The button, however, does not get you into the 21+ New Years Countdown party, which starts at 9 p.m. at Town Hall.

The party, naturally, doesn't stop until 2013.

The town of Needham will come alive with music, dance and performances of all kinds on Monday, December 31 during the annual New Year’s Needham celebration for all ages.

Headlining this year’s event is the evening Countdown Celebration in Powers Hall featuring Family Jewels, a 5-piece R & B doo-wop band that will provide music for dancing and grooving in the new year. Additionally, 19-piece swing band The Old Kids play in the afternoon for an earlier start to the festivities in Powers Hall.

Popular comedian Jim Colliton returns this year with his suburban humor and favorite musical groups such as Needham Concert Society, Longwood Opera, Needham Concert Society, Melodius Funk jazz as well as Homegrown Coffeehouse folk will provide entertainment for every taste.

Children’s events begin at 10:30 a.m. and include Tanglewood Marionettes , perennial favorite Chris Bolter and his magic show, storytelling, arts and crafts and more.

A free trolley will operate for most of the day beginning at Needham High School Admiral Gracey St. parking lots and stopping near all venues.
Buttons are on sale now for $5 at Needham Town Hall, Needham Free Library, Roche Bros./Sudbury Farms and other locations throughout town. Additional charge applies for Countdown Celebration tickets.
