Five Things You Need to Know Today: Dec. 1

New Year's Needham 2012 buttons go on sale today.

1. Sunny and cooler: We should see sunny skies today but somewhat cooler temperatures, with a high near 47 degrees and a low around 26, according to the National Weather Service.

2. New Year’s Eve buttons on sale: The annual New Year’s Needham celebration is approaching, and $5 fundraising buttons go on sale today at locations around town including the selectmen’s office at , the Park and Recreation Office at the , the , the , , , and Individuals wearing NYN12 buttons will receive discounts at 10 local businesses. The 2012 New Year’s Eve celebration will take place in the newly renovated Powers Hall at the Town Hall and will include performances by comedian Jim Colliton, jazz band Melodius Funk and the Charles River Ballet among other activities. 3. Auction items needed: The Needham High School Habitat for Humanity Club is for their silent auction fundraiser, to be held on Dec. 10 at the high school. Proceeds will support club members on their trip to Florida over February break where they will assist with a Habitat service project. Auction items could include tickets to cultural events, gift certificates to restaurants, collectibles, artwork and local services. For information, e-mail Emily_Will@needham.k12.ma.us.

4. Purchase your paver: Looking for a unique gift idea for that Needhamite who has everything? How about putting the individual’s or a whole family’s name on a paver to be included in a at the newly renovated Town Hall. Engravers cost between $200 and $500 each.
