Volante Farms ‘Green’ Farm Tour

• Why Go: As part of Healthy Needham 2011, associated with Needham 300, June is being celebrated as “Trim Your Carbon Footprint” Month. As part of that effort, Healthy Needham is sponsoring a free tour of Volante Farms’ new “green” greenhouse and farm.

Join Needham’s Summer Reading Club  
• Where/When: , 1139 Highland Ave.; Saturday, June 18 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday, June 19 from 1:00-5:00 p.m.

Why Go: School’s out and the first day of summer is fast approaching, so now is the perfect time to sign up for the Needham Free Public Library’s summer reading program. Centered on the theme of “One World, Many Stories,” the Summer Reading Club gives kids a chance to log in their reading hours over the summer for prizes and also includes special events such as the “Wayne From Maine Show” on June 22. Sign up during library hours at the children’s library or online. There are two age groups: Read to Me (ages 3-6) and Independent Readers (kindergarten through sixth grade). The last day to sign up is July 30.

P.I.N.E. Origami Class 
• Where/When: , 1139 Highland Ave.; Saturday, June 18 from 11:00 a.m. to noon

• Why Go: Every third Saturday of the month, the Paperfolders In New England group, or P.I.N.E., teaches origami, highlighting a unique project. All ages are welcome.

• Pricing: Free

 
Where/When: , 72 School St.; Saturday, June 18 from 10:00 a.m. to noon.

Why Go: Curious about what Tobin has to offer? Stop by and learn about its full-day kindergarten schedule and curriculum, ask questions and meet the director.

• Pricing: Free, but RSVP by e-mail.

 
• Where/When: The Dover Church (Kraft Hall), 17 Springdale Ave., Dover; Saturday, June 18 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Why Go: Support the Needham-based while shopping from a great selection of artwork and other items, plus enjoy a bake sale, raffles, kids crafts and more. For a list of vendors, visit the Friends’ Web site.
