February's First Snow Expected Tonight, Saturday

Needham may see 3 to 5 inches of snow over the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Norfolk County and much of Massachusetts as well as areas of New Hampshire and Rhode Island. Light snow showers are expected to begin on Friday night, with less than half an inch of acculumlation, and snow is expected to pick up on Saturday, tapering off by 5 p.m. Saturday. The local forecast calls for accumulation of 3 to 5 inches of snow on Saturday.

Snowfall may start again Saturday night before 11 p.m.

Also, temperatures are expected to drop on Saturday, with a low around 14 degrees and wind chill values as low as zero, according to the National Weather Service. Sunday will be mostly sunny with a high near 23 degrees.

The National Weather Service reports there is a “moderate to high probability that winter weather advisories will be needed for a portion of southern New England.”

The heaviest snowfall should hit southeastern Massachusetts, but the weather service warned that a shift in the storm track could result in changes in the type of precipitation and amount.
