Easter Services Held Throughout Town

The following is an overview of Holy Week services and programs taking place this week in Needham.

With Palm Sunday services held this past weekend, the Holy Week continues for Catholics with Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday. With such a big week upon residents, several Needham churches are hosting special services and programs in honor of the holiday.

Good Friday services will be held at St. Joseph's Parish 8:30 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on April 2, followed by Holy Saturday liturgy at 8:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., on April 3. Easter Sunday masses will be held in the upper church at 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m., and 12:30 p.m.

Grace Lutheran Church on Greendale Ave. has planned several special services this week. Maundy Thursday will be marked at 7:30 p.m. on April 1 and Good Friday services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. on April 2. An Easter Vigil will be held on April 3 at 7:30 p.m., followed by Easter Sunday services at both 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. on April 4. Easter services will feature Holy Communion.

Further down the road, the Cornerstone Assembly of God and Good Shepherd will be marking April 4 with an Easter Morning Breakfast and Service.  Guests can enjoy breakfast at 9:30 a.m., then attend a 10:30 a.m. Easter Worship Service. All are invited and churchgoers should be aware that there will be no regularly scheduled 12:15 p.m. service on this day.

At St. Bartholomew, tomorrow will begin with Mass at 9 a.m., with confessions conducted later on, between 6:30 and 8 p.m. A Mass of the Last Supper will be conducted at 7 p.m. on April 1, while Good Friday will see a morning prayer at 9 a.m., Stations of the Cross for children at 10 a.m. and Passion of the Lord at 3 and 7 p.m.

St. Bartholomew will host an Easter Vigil Mass at 8 p.m. on April 3, while Easter Sunday will be celebrated with masses at 8, 9:45 and 11:30 a.m.

A Maundy Thursday supper and service will be held in the sanctuary of Carter Memorial United Methodist Church at 6:30 p.m. on April 1. April 2 will see an Ecumenical Good Friday service at Noon, while April 3 will offer an Easter Vigil service at 7:15 p.m. Easter Sunday service, meanwhile, will be held at 10:15 a.m. on April 4.

Tomorrow, March 31 at Noon, Christ Episcopal Church will have Holy Eucharist. Maundy Thursday will be marked with bread making at 5:30 p.m., supper and Holy Eucharist at 6:30 p.m. and an All-Night Vigil at 8 p.m.

On April 2, Christ Episcopal will have an Ecumenical Good Friday Service at the Congregational Church at Noon, followed by a children's Good Friday service at the chapel. The Great Vigil of Easter will be conducted on April 3 at 6 p.m. and Easter Eucharist will be celebrated on April 4 at 9 and 11 a.m.

Maundy Thursday will be marked at the Presbyterian Church with a 7 p.m. service on April 1. Residents are invited to the Annual Easter Eve Potluck at 5 p.m. on April 3 and Easter Sunday Worship at 11 a.m. on April 4.

The Congregational Church of Needham will be hosting a simple soup supper at 6 p.m. to mark the Last Supper of Jesus on April 1. Supper will be followed by a candlelight communion service with the choir at 7 p.m.

Easter Sunday mass will be said at the church at 9 and 11 a.m. Communion will be served at the 11 a.m. service. Between services at 10 a.m. kids are invited to participate in an Easter Egg Hunt. 

The First Baptist Church of Needham will host a Simple Supper and Maundy Thursday service on April 1, with the Resurrection Sunday mass, with Communion, on April 4.

Several programs are being held on to mark Easter Sunday at First Parish Unitarian Universalist. An Intergenerational Service will be held between 9:30 and 10:15 a.m., followed by an Easter Egg Hunt at 10:30 a.m., hosted by the Youth Group. Easter service will be conducted at 10:45 a.m. with the Rev. John Buehrens preaching.
