5 Things You Need To Know Today: Sept. 21

The Needham Rockets will take on Braintree tonight at Memorial Field, with the NCYSAP's 5th Quarter event to follow at the high school cafeteria.

1. Mostly sunny: Today will be mostly sunny with a calm wind becoming 5 to 8 miles per hour in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. The evening will be party cloudy. High: 70, Low: 50.

2. Movie day: Bring the kids to the Needham Free Public Library today at 3:30 p.m. to see the film adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ “The Lorax” (Rated PG, 88 minutes). This program is free and open to all.

3. Game on: Needham Rockets football will host Braintree tonight at Memorial Field. Kick-off is at 7 p.m. The state championship NHS Dance Team will be honored at halftime, and Boston sports radio station WEEI will have a tent by the gate. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students and seniors (free for ages 6 and under).

4. 5th Quarter: After the football game, from 9-11 p.m., high school students can drop by the Needham High School cafeteria for free food, music, games and raffles during the Needham Youth Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition’s 5th Quarter event.

5. Go pink: The Ellie Fund, a Needham-based nonprofit organization that fights breast cancer, is planning two upcoming events. On Sunday, Sept. 23, kids and their parents are invited to visit the Linden Square Courtyard in Wellesley for a Princess Party. Enjoy singing, dancing, royal treats and gift bags from 1-3 p.m. Tickets cost $10 per child and adult; purchase tickets in advance at elliefund.org. Coming up on Sunday, Sept. 30, the Ellie Fund will hold a Fashionably Pink Brunch and Shopping Day. Get tickets at elliefund.org.
