5 Things You Need To Know Today: Oct. 1

Needham High School will hold a series of positive coaching workshops this week.

1. Mostly sunny: After a few days of rain, today will be mostly sunny, with partly cloudy skies this evening, according to the National Weather Service. High: 71, Low: 51.

2. Storytime: Children ages 5 and under are invited to drop by the Needham Free Public Library today at 10:30 a.m. for stories, music, movement and more. All children must be accompanied by an adult. No registration is required.

3. Coaching workshops: Needham High School is holding a series of Positive Coaching Alliance workshops this week, beginning today with “Culture, Practices and Games” for local youth and high school coaches from 7-8:30 p.m. in the high school library. These free, interactive workshops are designed to help establish a shared set of values and common goals for all athletic programs in town. A session on Tuesday will be open to parents as well as coaches. 4. Health clinic: The Needham Public Health Department staff offers a free health clinic every Monday through Thursday from 8-9:30 a.m. at their office on the second floor of Needham Town Hall. Clinics may include blood pressure screening, immunizations, answers to medical questions, review of medications, counseling and referrals. For more information, call the office at 781-455-7523.

5. Diversity summit: The first Needham Diversity Summit is coming up on Saturday, Oct. 13. The summit will help establish a network of people committed to an equitable and welcoming town and challenge Needham residents to think in new ways about their evolving community.
