5 Things You Need To Know Today: Nov. 6

Needham Public Schools are closed today.

“Five Things You Need to Know Today” is a Patch column that provides readers with essential, daily information at a glance.

1. Sunny: Today will be clear and sunny with a calm wind, according to the National Weather Service. High: 42, Low: 28.

2. Don’t forget to vote! In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past year or so, here’s a friendly reminder that today is ELECTION DAY. That means you (yes, you!) should head to your local polling place today between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. and cast your ballot for the next U.S. president, Massachusetts senator and more. For a complete look at who’s on the ballot, including state issues, visit Needham Patch’s Election Guide 2012. And check back throughout the day for updates and election results once the polls close.

3. No school: Needham Public Schools are closed today. Several of the school buildings will be open as polling locations.

4. Flu shots: The Needham Public Health Department is offering flu shots today from 8-9:30 a.m. by appointment at Town Hall. To schedule an appointment, call 781-455-7500 ext. 511. The next clinic will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 13 from 4-6 p.m.

5. Art demo: The Needham Art Association will meet tonight at 7 p.m. at the Needham Free Public Library Community Room. Artist Robin Wessman will give an oil painting demonstration. The Needham Art Association enriches Needham by exhibiting more than 500 paintings in town locations every year. New members are always welcome. Learn more at www.needarts.org.
