1. Rain possible: Today will be partly sunny with a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 3 p.m., with some storms possibly producing heavy rain, according to the National Weather Service. 2. Summer Film Festival: Bring the kids to watch the film adaptation of the classic book “The Phantom Tollbooth” (Rated G, 90 minutes) today at 2 p.m. at the . The program is free, with no registration required.

3. Fall sports registration: Registration opens today for athletics. Find the “blue” seasonal registration form and the “gold” annual registration form online at nhs.needham.k12.ma.us/athletics; fill them out and return them to the NHS Athletic Office (or fax to 781-455-0818) by Aug. 15. Fall 2012 sports begin on the following dates: Dance team, and varsity/JV football, Aug. 20; cheerleading, Aug. 21; freshman football and all other fall sports, Aug. 23. 4. Vacation Bible School: ’s Vacation Bible School program is on Aug. 27-31. Kids will create crafts, play games, participate in meaningful community service, sing songs and enjoy snacks, all around a theme of “VBS Olympics: Join God’s Olympic Team to Change the World.” Register by today, Aug. 1, and receive a $10 discount. 5. Business buddies: The Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce is launching a new networking program for business professionals who are in career transition or seeking new job opportunities. The will meet weekly at the chamber’s office at 281 Needham St. in Newton. Participation is free, and membership in the chamber is not required. To register, e-mail jsanroma@computer.org.
