2,200+ Needham Homes Remain Without Power

NSTAR is working to restore electricity around the region following Hurricane Sandy.

More than 2,200 Needham residents remained without power at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning following Hurricane Sandy.

About 18 percent of NSTAR's customer base in town are still experiencing outages after the storm brought down trees and limbs all over town, according to NSTAR's Outage Map.

NSTAR's Outage Map does not go into detail about where outages are.

Needham Public Schools closed for the day because there are still so many without power and there is still much cleanup to be done on local roadways.

Residents are encouraged to report all weather-related issues to the town by calling 781-455-7550 and selection Option 2, then Option 1 to connect to the Department of Public Works administration.

To report a power outage to NSTAR, call 800-592-2000 or use the online Report an Outage form.

If residents see sparks or a downed wire, they should call in the issue immediately to local police (781-455-7570) or fire (781-444-0142) or dial 9-1-1. Officials remind residents that they should stay away from all downed wires, as they should be considered live and dangerous.

Are you experiencing a power outage? Tell us in the comments below where you're at, tweet to @NeedhamPatch, or email becca.manning@patch.com. See other damage in the area? Trees down? Roads blocked? Tell us about it so we can let your neighbors know which areas to avoid.

Unfortunately, calling Needham DPW for weather-related tree issues seems to elicit a response that is anything but encouraging to residents. Fine tax-dollars at work.

River Park Street & Hampton Ave are out of power. Few trees down. End of River Park Street is blocked and the same with Hampton Ave.
