The Residences at Wingate Opens Doors

Wingate Healthcare (www.residencesatwingate.com), the Northeast’s premiere provider of healthcare and hospitality for seniors, today announced the opening of their 21st community, The Residences at Wingate, which is located adjacent to the Wingate at Needham skilled care center. The Residences is located at 235 Gould Street on a 10-acre campus and offers 82,000 square feet of living space. Just in time for winter, a season when seniors and their children are concerned about the threats posed by snow and cold weather, the luxurious 91-unit community offers underground parking, leased apartments, hospitality and healthcare on one campus.

The Residences at Wingate is providing the services seniors need at a time when there is a severe lack of senior housing in Massachusetts and across the country, as well as an impending demographic tsunami. According to the Center for Housing Policy’s new report, Housing an Aging Population, by 2050, the numbers of those aged 65 or older will increase 120% to more than 88 million, making one in every five Americans over 65. The numbers of Americans aged 85 or older will more than triple over the same period to 19 million.

Developed and managed locally by the Schuster family, The Residences at Wingate is more than just a business, it’s personal. The inspiration was born when Wingate Healthcare Founder and President, Scott Schuster, became concerned about the local options available for an aging relative. Recognizing that what he desired did not exist; he sought to create a place that could provide seniors with varied levels of care, services and hotel-like amenities in a single location.

“For us, family is the most important thing and I can’t think of any greater honor than being able to serve Needham, Newton and families in surrounding communities by ensuring their parents and grandparents have the absolute best care,” said Schuster. “Whether it’s one of our Nursing Assistant’s having lunch with a resident or offering support and guidance to adult children, through our daily interactions with residents, we are creating one big extended family.”

The Residences offers many amenities such as open concept dining, 24/7 refreshments, 30,000 square feet of indoor parking, transportation, housekeeping, a private dining room for family gatherings, an on-site physician office, activities and state-of-the-art security.  However, what really sets the community apart is the modern architecture and visual inspiration at every turn, including interactive Zen-like spaces, vibrant interior design, outdoor fireplaces and dining, floor to ceiling windows and the Versailles Spa and salon.

The community also boasts two secured Memory Care neighborhoods with private rooms, individualized chef prepared meals, sun-filled open spaces and an enclosed garden for those with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Under the direction of Angela “A.J.” Plummer, Senator Ed Markey’s Ambassador for Alzheimer’s Care for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the cornerstone of care at The Residences at Wingate is Habilitation Therapy. This interpersonal approach gets to the root of how the individual feels and communicates, and works to maintain morale and a positive emotional state. In addition, The Residences staff can administer and manage medication to ensure patients are taking what they need, when they need it.
