Meet the Artist: Chair Celebrates Bakery's Sweet Style

Patch profiles the creative minds behind the Needham Merchants Association's Adirondack project.

The Needham Merchants Association's "A Chair To Remember" project brings together local artists, businesses and organizations in an effort to draw more people downtown and encourage them to shop local.

Placed throughout downtown Needham, each Adirondack chair has its own theme and was painted by a local artist. The chairs will be auctioned off at an event in September, with proceeds to benefit town beautification projects and local students.

Needham Patch will be profiling some of the artists behind these creations throughout the summer. Today, we chat with Chloe Weiss, who teamed up with  Emilie-Kahn-Boesel to create the "Sprinkle Me Silly" chair seen outside Treat Cupcake Bar this summer.

Note: These questions were answered by Chloe Weiss.

Why did you decide to participate in this project? I have seen the painted cows scattered around town in the past and I just loved the idea of adding some spunk to Needham. Along with my love for designing and painting, I think it's really cool that each piece can hold so much personality. I found it hard to resist such a cool project that also raises money for a cause.

What was your inspiration for the piece? Treat has such a bold and fabulous vibe to the store, and the striking color scheme there was extremely inspirational when creating our design. Particularly, we were inspired by a certain cupcake with the title, "Sprinkle Me Silly," which we saw in the bakery case.

What is your background as an artist? I have been in the art sequence at Needham High School for two years, and I will be entering my third year as an AP art student this year.

What is your medium of choice? In class, I have always loved working with mixed-media college as well as acrylic paint.

Where can someone see more of your work? My work, as well as many other talented artists' work, will be displayed in the Needham High School art shows that happen throughout the school year at NHS.
