Letter: Needham Businesses Giving Thanks with Community Food Drive

This letter was submitted by a Needham town employee.

As the holidays fast approach, it’s always a good idea to take time out of our busy schedules and give thanks for what we have.

The Needham Merchants Association, the Needham Restaurant Association, and the Needham Business Association, as part of the Discover Needham Local First Campaign, are coordinating an effort to give thanks and give back to the community. They are sponsoring Needham Gives Thanks, a food drive—“20 Days of People Helping People in Needham”—from Nov. 1-20 to benefit the Needham Community Council. The council provides critical support to the less fortunate in our community.

So bring your donations of nonperishable items to participating independent locally owned businesses—just look for the Discover Needham Local First logo and the Needham Gives Thanks sign in the window.

Needham Gives Thanks is just one of the events of the Discover Needham Local First campaign, sponsored by the Needham Business Association, to raise awareness of the unique economic and social benefits of purchasing goods and services from locally owned independent businesses and of the unique characteristics and opportunities provided by our wonderful retail, service and restaurant establishes here in Needham.

While dropping off your donations, please take the opportunity to spend your holiday dollars here in Needham. Did you know that, unlike a dollar spent at a chain store or outside Needham, 68 cents of each dollar spent at an independent locally-owned business stays in Needham?  Our independent, locally owned businesses reinvest in our community, both by spending locally themselves and by making significant charitable public contributions.

Give back to the business community that provides so much to us—shop, dine, Discover Needham First.
