Farmers Market Slices Off a Piece of Tomato Festival

Which tomatoes are the tastiest? The Needham Farmers Market found out.

Last week's tomato festival at the Needham Farmers market featured a number of the red fruits (yes, technically they are fruit)--and some of them were winners.

The 'Guess the Weight' contest prize was an heirloom tomato, and the prize went to Matthew Rivers, who was within .03 pounds of the final weight.

The Market also held a tasting survey, and found that the preferred tomato was a heirloom Cherokee Purple, with the Geronimo variety placing second and the heirloom Striped German coming in third.

The Needham Farmers Market opens Sundays, from 1-5 p.m. on the front lawn of First Parish in Needham. According to an announcement Farmers Market organizers, this week's vendors include: Foxboro Cheese, Playful Pup, Susie's Bakery, Lilac Hedge, Big Sky Bakery, MacArthur Farm, Neighborhood Farm, and Globe Fish.
