For a little bit of paradise right here in Needham, step into the luxurious serenity of in Needham, where you can enjoy a deep tissue massage, soak in a mud bath or discover the benefits of facial acupuncture.
Owners Andy and Catherine Teodorescu opened the local spa in June 2007 and offer a variety of services as well as a relatively new membership program that provides clients with major discounts on treatments.
“My wife is a spa junkie, or she used to be, so we were looking to open a nice business that could also be relaxing to work in,” Andy Teodorescu said of why they decided to open the spa.
Located at 1183 Highland Ave., Lotus Mind+Body Spa is open Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday from 12:00-6:00 p.m. To schedule an appointment, call 781-455-6887. More information can be found on their Web site, lotusmb.com, or by sending an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Lotus’ most popular services are massages—Swedish, deep tissue, hot stone, pregnancy and other types—as well as mud baths, Andy Teodorescu said. Also popular are skin care treatments—facials and peels—and waxing, in particular Brazilian bikini, which is available for just $36 with a one-year membership.
The spa also offers manicures and pedicures, body wraps, body polish, acupuncture and eyelash extensions.
“We have eyelash extensions that we introduced a few months ago, and that’s picking up nicely,” Teodorescu said. “The lash extensions have been around for a while, but they’re gaining popularity. And we price very low for lash extensions.”
Many salons charge in the range of $280 to $360 for an eyelash extension, which essentially fills in a client's eyelashes giving them a fuller, thicker look. At Lotus, it runs about $200. The service lasts two to three months depending on the individual’s lash growth cycle. After a few weeks, clients generally return for an in-between refill at a cost of about $80, Teodorescu said.
The spa also has a variety of combo packages that offer multiple services for a discounted price.
Lotus recently began selling a new makeup line.
“All of the products have a little bit of the pharmaceutical-grade materials, so it’s not just makeup, but it also helps with the skin around the eyes and other benefits,” Teodorescu said.
Also new, the spa now offers bridal party packages, with major discounts for five or more people, and provides corporate and group memberships as well.
Individuals can sign up for a three-month, six-month or one-year membership, paying an up-front fee of $10 per month and receiving a 30-40 percent discount on all services and products during the membership period.
“You have somebody who buys a one-year membership, and they pay $120 up front and then they have the whole year to get 40 percent off,” Teodorescu explained.
Several clients come in almost weekly for a massage, wrap or other services, saving hundreds of dollars over their membership period, he said.
Lotus also offers special-occasion packages, such as for moms on Mother’s Day, and other occasional deals. Right now, they are running a $10-off special on massages every Monday. Book a one-hour massage for $70 or a 90-minute massage for $110.
“More and more people realize the benefits of massage or skin care or waxing, and once they realize they can afford it, then this is the place to go,” Teodorescu said.
