Needhamite Saves Boston Strong Concert Stream

After the Boston Strong concert live stream crashed, it was a Needham resident who stepped up to bring it back up.

Thursday night, the Boston Strong concert sold out the TD Garden in downtown Boston. Thousands also logged on to watch the live stream of the concert--so many, in fact, that it crashed.

Which is when a Needham resident stepped in to get things back on track. The Boston Herald reports that Marc Ruskin, president of FastHockey.com, called up the people at the Garden to bring the stream back online.

“I switched to our hockey platform,” Ruskin told the Herald, and explained that he put the concert livestream through their Akamai Technologies servers--and it picked up over 500,000 viewers from all over the world.

He added that the Garden organizers learned a lesson that night: “Be prepared for large audiences.”

The concert was to benefit the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings in April. It was live at the Garden and broadcast on the web and SiriusXM Radio, but was not aired on television. It featured Aerosmith and Jimmy Buffett, as well as comics like Dane Cook and Steve Wright, among other acts.

The concert benefitted The One Fund Boston.
