Southern Rail will perform at the Homegrown Coffeehouse on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 8:00 p.m.
After more than 30 years playing together, Southern Rail continues to delight audiences with their contemporary energy, spirit and drive, matched only by the warmth and humor of their performances. Their music is upbeat and emotionally charged, encompassing contemporary trios, powerful gospel quartets and solid instrumentals.
Southern Rail features: Jim Muller on guitar and lead vocals—born and raised in Richmond, VA, Muller’s rich, distinctive lead vocals and offbeat humor have become one of the group's trademarks; Sharon Horovitch on upright bass—aggressive, creative and irrepressible, Horovitch is known for her infectious smile, her limber bass work and her tenor and high-baritone harmonies; and Rich Stillman on banjo—Stillman has been playing bluegrass banjo for more than 30 years.
Southern Rail's recordings have climbed to No. 11 on Bluegrass Unlimited’s Top 30 Single’s Chart and have hit No. 1 on a number of radio stations across the nation. Their songs have graced Bluegrass Unlimited's Top 30 Singles Chart for a combined total of 32 months, receiving heavy national airplay. One of Southern Rail's earlier CDs, a special bluegrass gospel compilation entitled "Glory Train," was nominated for Best Gospel Recording of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association.
The Homegrown Coffeehouse is located at the , at the corner of Great Plain and Dedham avenues in Needham Center. There is free parking and full handicapped access. Admission is $18 general and $15 for students and seniors, with proceeds benefitting the church.
