Needham Resident Bob Popeo to be Honored at 2013 Bridge Over Troubled Waters Annual gala and Auction

On Saturday, April 6, 2013, Bridge Over Troubled Waters will host its annual Gala and Auction at 6 p.m., at the Four Seasons Hotel Boston.  For more than 40 years, Bridge Over Troubled Waters has been dedicated to transforming the lives of runaway, homeless, and high-risk youth through safe, supportive, and encouraging relationships and effective and innovative services that guide them toward self-sufficiency. The gala features a silent and live auction that will be conducted by auctioneers Mayor Thomas M. Menino and Bob Davis of Highland Capital.  The live auction will feature one-of-a-kind items and experiences including a private dinner prepared in your home by Executive Chef Brooke Vosika of the Four Seasons Boston, a luxury suite to a major concert at TD Garden, a once in a lifetime ball boy/ball girl experience at a Boston Celtics game and more.

This year’s Bridge Over Troubled Waters Gala will honor Attorney R. Robert Popeo, chairman of Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky & Popeo, P.C. and ML Strategies. Co-chairs of the event are Chuck Clough of Clough Capital Partners LP and Walter Donovan of Putnam Investments. Popeo is a resident of Needham. 

 “Bridge Over Troubled Waters continues its great legacy with caring for troubled youth who may have lost their way.  The event brings together members of our community, such as our honoree Bob Popeo,  who are committed to invest in these youth through the Bridge programs that help them develop skills, confidence and the independence they need to fully lead their lives,” said Clough.

Bridge provides a variety of programs and services to homeless young people on the streets of Boston including health care through Bridge’s free Mobile Medical Van, transitional living services providing support and housing for youth who were working on completing their education, building job skills, and saving money for the future; a Transitional Day Program—a safe and clean setting where homeless young people can get a hot meal, take a shower, access lockers, do their laundry, and participate in life-skills workshops. In addition, Bridge operates Boston’s onlyEmergency Youth Shelter, allowing Bridge to take youth directly off the streets and provide them with a continuum of services that will guide them into independence.

Of the young people who seek help at Bridge, 100 percent live at the poverty level. They are likely to be struggling with any number of serious issues: court involvement, gang involvement, domestic violence, addiction, pregnancy, mental-health issues, school failure, significant learning disabilities, trauma histories, sexual exploitation, discrimination based on sexual orientation, or aging out of foster care. Bridge offers a safe and supportive environment in which these troubled youth can find out who they are and where they want to be. Then, Bridge helps them get there.
