North Hill Celebrates the Arts and Showcases the Progress of Community Transformation at Free Event

Not quite two years have passed since North Hill kicked off “Project True North,” a $100 million+ project that has transformed the Needham/Wellesley retirement community into the next evolution of senior living. On September 9 and 10, North Hill will showcase the progress on campus, celebrate the arts, and present educational and inspirational sessions featuring Boston’s leading educators and artists [www.NorthHill.org/experience].

The True North Experience event begins on September 9 at 1:30p with an orientation by Kevin Burke, President & CEO of North Hill.  A keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Len Schlesinger of Harvard Business School. Dr. Schlesinger will investigate the rewards of “PurposeFULL Giving” (a play on North Hill’s national-award-winning PurposeFULL Living philosophy).

Then, seniors and their guests have a choice of exploring painting, philanthropy, Boston history, music, post-retirement careers and gardening. Four to five sessions will run concurrently between 2:30p and 4:30p. A detailed agenda can be found at www.NorthHill.org/experience.

Several sessions feature North Hill community partners such as the Foundation for MetroWest and A Far Cry Chamber Orchestra. One – “5280’ in a Mile” – will be led by North Hill’s physical fitness experts and promises to have attendees up and walking.

The program will allow visitors to see first-hand the progress of the campus transformation, as classes will be held in amenities built within the last year: the new Art Gallery, the Post & Parlor, the Greenhouse and the Aerobics Studio.

Between sessions, members of the North Hill community will host guests on the new campus Town Commons and introduce them to the clubs and activities that make life at North Hill so engaging. The day closes with an address by Jim Boyd, former anchor of WCVB, on the rewards of lifelong learning.

Tuesday, September 10: A Multisensory Social Celebration

The second day of the public celebration begins at 4p. “The event is called the True North Experience with good reason,” said Kevin Burke. “Attendees will be experiencing North Hill with all five senses – sight, taste, smell, touch and sound.”

·        Sight: Join four Boston-based painters for a reception in the Art Gallery in celebration of their newest installation, Boston Painters, Boston Painted.

·        Taste/Smell: The Urban Grape will guide guests in wine tastings. North Hill’s acclaimed culinary team will present delicious hors d’oeuvres and desserts.

·        Feeling: Feel what it means to be part of the future of senior living as you socialize with members of the North Hill and Boston MetroWest communities.

·        Hearing: Enjoy the premiere of a composition by Rhythm of the Universe created especially for the True North Experience! Rhythm of the Universe promotes unity and innovation in music through a collaboration of musicians from all over the world.

All of the activities over the two-day True North Experience are free and open to the public. To RSVP, call 781-433-6400 or register online at www.NorthHill.org/experience.
