Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Needham Names 2014 Boston Marathon Team

Needham, MA—Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital is pleased to announce its 2014 Boston Marathon Team. The team will be running to raise money for the new Beth Israel Deaconess Cancer Center and Surgical Pavilion slated to open at BID-Needham next fall.

Runners were selected based on each member’s application about why they want to run in this year’s marathon. Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Needham employee Corey McNulty explains his desire to run. “I ran the Boston Marathon last year and was stopped just yards from the finish line because of the horrible bombings,” said McNulty, senior director of support services and safety officer at BID-Needham. “Not only do I want to finish the race this year but I am running to remember those who died in this senseless tragedy, to honor the injured who have endured in the face of devastating trauma, and for my BID colleagues who were among the first responders.”

Two sisters, Jennifer Curran of Brockton and Maureen Curran of Boston are both hospital supporters and want to be part of building the new cancer center and surgical pavilion. “We, like many, were deeply impacted by last year’s tragic events at the marathon.  We want to represent that Boston is Strong and show that this year’s marathon will be better than ever…we also know that our friends and family have been impacted by cancer and by providing us with a donation can help support BID-Needham to build a world class cancer center to assist in treating more patients.”

Lindsay Foley, RN, Emergency Department Nurse, and Medical Staff Office Coordinator Lauren Oliva will also be running along with Josh Nadeau or Allston. “I am keenly aware of the significant impact that BID-Needham has on the Needham community and surrounding communities by providing safe, high-quality, first-class community healthcare,” commented Nadeau. “I am honored to have the opportunity to run in the Boston Marathon on behalf of Beth Israel Deaconess-Needham.”

The BID-Needham team will be part of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center’s team; a total of 60 runners. Runners are required to raise a minimum of $7,500 for the hospital.
