DESCRIPTION:On  Thursday\, June 7\, during the district-wide Early Releas
 e Day\, the  NHS Athletic Department will be running the second  annual 
 Eighth Grade  Athlete Step-Up Day at the high school from 11:30 a.m. to 
 2:35 p.m.\nThe objective of the afternoon is to introduce rising ninth  
 graders  to NHS and the interscholastic athletics program. This event  w
 ill also  begin the important transition for the incoming students to  t
 he high  school community. Parent or guardian permission is required in 
 order for  a  child to participate.\nAll registered eighth graders will 
 walk with  chaperones to Needham  High School  after their early release
 \, have a pizza lunch\, meet with  NHS coaches  and athletes\, get a tou
 r of the building and attend a  Positive Coaching  Alliance student-athl
 ete leadership workshop. In this  dynamic\,  interactive workshop\, the 
 students will learn about the  levels of hard  work\, commitment and per
 sonal growth required to become a  true  competitor. Ideas and strategie
 s about how to make themselves\,  their  teammates\, their teams\, and t
 heir sports better will be also be   discussed.\nDuring the coming year\
 , various PCA workshops will be offered  to NHS  students\, parents\, co
 aches\, and to Needham youth sports  organizations\,  at no charge thank
 s to a generous grant from the Needham  Education  Foundation.To sign up
  a student for Eighth Grade Step-Up Day\, visit the Athletic Dept. websi
 te\,  access the permission slip and medical form and  return to your ch
 ild's  "A" block teacher by May 31. If your student currently attends pr
 ivate  school\, forms can be sent directly to the NHS Athletic Departmen
