International Walk to School Day postponed to Friday Oct 5
Needham public schools will be joining schools in 50 U.S. states and 40 countries to celebrate International Walk to School Day on the rain date of Friday Oct 5 (originally planned for Oct 3). Exact hours vary with school opening times, between 7 and 9 am.
Children and teens are encouraged to make signs to draw attention to walking and celebrating the day by holding them during their morning walk to school. Teachers, staff, administrators, elected officials, town staff and community members are invited to join the fun.
Walk to School events work to create safer routes for walking and bicycling, and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion, concern for the environment and building connections between families, schools and the broader community.
For additional local information, please contact your school's Safe Routes coordinators or visit http://wiki.greenneedham.org/gnc/index.php/Schools/Projects/Walking. This page will also be used to call the rain day if needed.
