Immigration: Why Should We Care? What Can We Do? A Needham Lyceum

The Needham Lyceum will host an interactive discussion entitled “Immigration: Why should we care and what can we do about it” on Sunday, November 18, at 9:15 am at First Parish in Needham. The discussion will be led by Needham resident and retired UMass-Boston faculty member Clark Taylor, a longtime immigration activist.
What will it take to give immigrants all the credit they deserve to help make our society more healthy and just? This question calls for a reminder of the contributions immigrants make to Needham and our society more generally. Audience members’ questions and comments following a short presentation will both clarify the contributions and lead us to consider what we can do to make a constructive difference.
The sad reality now is that some folks are using immigrants, particularly those who are undocumented, as a target to divide our society on a question for which people of faith should be providing leadership to bring us together. As the discussion gets underway, participants will be asked to agree on a set of guidelines designed to keep responses relatively short in which all voices and points of view will have the chance to be heard and thoughtfully considered.
Needham Lyceums are free and open to the public. First Parish is fully accessible and located just off the town square at 23 Dedham Ave (route 135). Please enter through the Lincoln Street doors and follow signs to the Lyceum. There is ample parking in the town lot off of Lincoln Street.
